John Thompson
John is a graduate of VMI in civil engineering and is retired from a long career in construction. He built his first harpsichord in 1973 -- a Zuckermann Flemish single that was purchased by St. Anne's Episcopal Church in Atlanta and is still used frequently to this day.
His next project was an English virginal built from plans drawn after Plate XV in Frank Hubbard's "Three Centuries of Harpsichord Making". It is attractive and nice to play but very high maintenance.
In their home, now in Danville, Kentucky along with the Flentrop is a decorated Flemish double finished in 2001. He completed a German single in 2005 just before the move to Danville. This instrument is currently on loan to Trinity Episcopal Church. In June 2006 he finished the musical restoration of 1970's Hubbard French double with Phillip D. Hickey, a repair contractor for Steinway and Sons (www.phillipdhickey.com). The instrument was recently delivered to its owner a central Kentucky organist and music teacher.
